I had once wanted to become an OBGYN because I love the miracle of birth and wanted a first hand experience in delivering babies. I also shadowed an OB and fell in love with it. However, after much deliberation, I decided not to pursue the specialty, mainly because I know I would never perform an abortion. It may be silly to some, but that was a huge tipping point for me; thinking about that made me realize that I could not become an OB.
I’m not anti-choice as far as the law is concerned, but I am personally against abortion. I know that I could never be forced to perform an abortion if I choose not to, but if you’re going to avoid anything that comes with having your career, then why choose it?
Neurology is option B, and it’s by far a better one now that I think about it.
Dr. Paul has delivered over 4000 babies and has never once performed an abortion. You could still be an OBGYN if you wanted :)
My mom was a L&D nurse practitioner for years and then became a midwife. She is a breastfeeding and natural childbirth advocate, has delivered thousands of babies, and has never had to perform an abortion. Look into midwifery, it’s extremely rewarding!
